Artist Statement about this work:
This series is a celebration of the journey. During 2014 I had a sabbatical from teaching and explored art and artworks throughout the United States. I visited The Lightening Field by Walter DeMaria in New Mexico, and Smithson’s Spiral Jetty in Utah. I discovered the spiral and circle images throughout New Mexico and Utah created by ancient people. The spiral and the circle appear in many of the works within this body of work and the motif is one I continue to explore. The spiral is a mystic circle that has appeared throughout recorded history as an image that represents the cycle of life, the sun and connectedness.
