This series of 12 monotypes honors the students of Storer College in Harpers Ferry, WV. After the Civil War Storer College welcomed students of all races and genders. At Storer former slaves and the sons and daughters of former slaves found a welcoming environment on the hills overlooking the Shenandoah River. While the town of Harpers Ferry was not always welcoming, the campus on the hill was a sanctuary of tolerance and encouragement. Dedicated teachers and aspiring students pursued an education opening an avenue to personal fulfillment.
